Mexico is a great place to visit because the people have created an unique culture, architecture, food, handicrafts and attractions. So many good memories can be had when you come on down and explore.  Whether you are looking for fun in the sun, something historical, colonial, ancient or more recent, or just want to explore as a foodie, you can find all this and much more.

Are you an extreme sports junkie? Cliff diving, open water swimming, scuba diving, spelunking, white water rafting, sky diving, bungee jumping and zip lining. You name it, it can be found in Mexico. Are you a passionate foodie? Mexican cuisine has been put on the UNESCO World Heritage List, stating that, as a cuisine, it unites and creates communities by passing on culinary traditions, produced from locally grown crops like corn, tomatillos and cinnamon, to name some of the many ingredients. How about the collector in the family? There are many things that can be found in the local markets, like ceramics, glassware, leather goods, pottery and handicrafts for your personal space.

If you are into history, the walls can speak in Mexico, especially in the ruins that can be found from the original missions built in Baja California and the Pacific coastal regions down to the Mayan temples. Depending on where you go, you can find different civilizations and their very particular manners of expression. You can also find colonial parts of Mexico City, Guanajuato, Chiapas and Oaxaca to be more your style, as you walk down to the plaza and have a nice cup of morning coffee with a sweet roll to start off your day.

If you are looking for cultural experiences, each city has its own unique festivals where you can see how a party can really be had. Try the Guelaguetza in Oaxaca, the Cervantino in Guanajuato, the Cumbre Tajin in Veracruz, the Day of the Dead in Patzcuaro or Mixquix or Independence Day (Sept 16) in any of the big cities. Plus each region has a certain way of celebrating their versions of the day. For example, the Day of the Dead in the Mayan region (the Yucatán) is normally referred to as “Hanal Pixan” and instead of eating tamales, they have something called “mucbi pollo”, which is a two-crust savory pie, wrapped in a banana leaf and baked in the ground. This is a very regional thing and won’t be found in touristy areas, so have a look around for this dish, if you are in search of something truly local.

All in all, the reasons not to visit are predominantly small and becoming very insignificant by the word. If you want more examples of what you can find for your foodie inspiration, read this article here.
